Multi-family households in a labour supply model: a calibration method with application to Poland∗
نویسنده
چکیده
The collective model of labour supply opened the household “black box” and allowed for individual treatment of partners in couples. However, the literature on labour supply has so far largely ignored a broader issue with special relevance to transition and developing countries the distinction of single versus multifamily (“complex”) households. We propose a method to account for the multifamily structure by borrowing from recent applications of the collective model and combining estimation and calibration to identify the degree of resource sharing. We assume that each household is characterised by a between-family sharing parameter, which is calibrated on estimated preferences, the observed labour market status and other characteristics. The key identifying assumption is that preferences over income and leisure of specific family types living in single and multi-family households are the same conditional on observable characteristics. Results of the calibrated model are compared to an extension of a “standard” labour supply model that does not explicitly account for sharing. We apply the method to Polish labour market data.

On Calibration and Application of Logit-Based Stochastic Traffic Assignment Models
There is a growing recognition that discrete choice models are capable of providing a more realistic picture of route choice behavior. In particular, influential factors other than travel time that are found to affect the choice of route trigger the application of random utility models in the route choice literature. This paper focuses on path-based, logit-type stochastic route choice models, i...
متن کاملLabour and Poverty: Empirical Relationship Using House Data from South Nigeria
In Nigeria, most farming activities rely on family labor. However, rural-urban drift and the movement of young people away from agriculture are making labor increasingly pause. Thus, labor has become a major constraint to expanding the scope of production by small-scale resource poor farmers. This paper provides an empirical relationship between labor and poverty using data from households. Thr...

In this research, we address the application of uncertaintyprogramming to design a multi-site, multi-product, multi-period,closed-loop supply chain (CLSC) network. In order to make theresults of this article more realistic, a CLSC for a case study inthe iron and steel industry has been explored. The presentedsupply chain covers three objective functions: maximization ofprofit, minimization of n...

Calibration of model is critical for hydrologic modeling of large watersheds in a mountain watershed. In this study Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) used to comparison a single-site calibration procedure that employed streamflow measurement at outlet of watershed to a multi-site calibration method that used streamflow measurements at three stations (Galinak, Joestan and Dehdar). Results sh...
